Gifts & Memorials


Gifts & Memorials was established by the Session of Chapel Lane Presbyterian Church in 2002 as a committee of the Board of Deacons. The role of this committee is to work with individuals and families who wish to establish special memorials or gifts to the church that fall outside of the normal church budget. In many cases this involves working with the Deacons in ministering to the bereaved who have recently lost a loved one. The committee is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining a “Wish List.” The Wish List is shared with donors to help them identify potential direction for memorial funds if they do not already have a specific gift in mind.
  • Monitoring the special donations made to the church for specific purposes (memorials or gifts).
  • Ensuring that the donations are spent appropriately and consider the interests of the donors as well as the needs of the church.
  • Report to the bereaved family or donor on the completion of their project.
  • Maintain a history of gifts and memorials made over the years.
  • On an annual basis, honor those who have joined the Lord in His glory.

In reviewing a request for a Memorial, Gift, or Wish List item, the committee looks into the needs of the church along with the purchase cost and long-term maintenance costs in terms of time and money.

How are Memorials & Gifts established?
To establish a memorial fund or a special gift, simply contact one of the members of the committee or place the request in the Gifts & Memorials mailbox just outside the church office. Be sure to include your name and phone number so that the committee can contact you to discuss your request.

If I want to give a Memorial, how do I go about it?

If you want to give a memorial contribution in the name of someone else, the contribution may be placed in the church offering on Sunday mornings or it may be mailed or delivered to the church office. If the contribution is in the form of a check, make sure that it includes the name of the Memorial Fund. If the contribution is in the form of cash, please place it in an envelope with the name of the Memorial Fund either on or in the envelope. Gifts that are not memorials should follow the same procedure.

How do I add something to the Wish List?
Anyone who wishes to add something to the formal Wish List may contact the committee. The committee will review the request, discuss the request with the person who suggested the idea, and if approved by the committee, make a recommendation to the Session.

Medical Equipment

The Deacons of Chapel Lane maintain a lending library of medical equipment for members and friends to use.

The lending library is strictly self-serve and is located in the closet at the end of the hall next to the kitchen on the Chapel Lane side of the building. Those in need of a particular piece of equipment may check to see if it is available for use. Items are checked out in the notebook in the closet. Nothing can become “overdue” and there are no costs or fines. We expect those who use this service to return items when they are no longer needed.
